From Diana Gil Velez:
Who do you see?
I work with adults of all walks of life. If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, and/or trauma I would love to work with you!
How can you help me?
Over the last 13 years, I have worked with many individuals like you who have expressed how much growth and transformation they have experienced with my integrative psychotherapeutic approach. I have trained in various short-term and long-term modalities to help you thrive (e.g., art therapy, EMDR, expressive arts, and psychoanalysis). I use these integrative approaches to help you live your best life. How much do sessions cost?
The initial consultation is $175.00. The fee for ongoing psychotherapy sessions is $175.00 for 45 minutes. Intervals of less than or more than 45 minutes will be charged at a prorated amount (e.g., 30 minutes would be $117.00; 60 minutes would be $233.33; etc.).
Do you take health insurance?
Yes, I am an in-network provider with Cigna. I may be considered an out of network provider for other NYS health insurances. For out of network health insurances, I will provide you a superbill to submit to your health insurance company for reimbursement if you have out of network benefits and they accept my psychotherapy NYS licenses--LCAT, LP (permit). For more information on health insurances and how to navigate that process, click here: http://www.evolvethroughart.com/services.html
I can’t afford your fee, can I still see you?
Yes, I reserve a few limited sessions per week for those who do not have health insurance and need a sliding scale. To qualify for this, I would need to hear more about your financial situation. I reserve these session for individuals with extreme economic hardship.
How long are sessions?
Individual sessions are for 45 minutes. However, there is flexibility to do intervals of 30 minutes, 45 minutes, and up to 60 minutes depending your schedule (and my availability).
Are sessions in person or teletherapy?
I am currently only doing virtual sessions at this time until the pandemic is under control. In 2022, I may be offering teletherapy, hybrid model, and in person sessions.
How often would I need to come in?
Ideally you should come in at minimum one time per week. However, in times of higher distress or in the beginning there may be times in your psychotherapy journey that you may want to come in 2 or more times per week depending on what we are working on. As a trained psychoanalyst, I am trained to see people up to 3 or more times per week if you want to do more in depth work.
What is your cancellation policy?
All cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance of your scheduled time via phone, text, or email. If you fail to cancel your session in advance, you will be charged the session fee $175.00. If you provide 24 hour notice and I have the availability in my schedule, we can arrange to meet at another time during that week. If you are using your health insurance to cover your psychotherapy sessions, you are responsible fo the cancellation fee and not your health insurance.
Is everything we talk about confidential?
Everything discussed and/or created during your sessions will be kept confidential. There are three exceptions to this policy:
I don't have a serious mental health condition, can I still see you?
Yes, absolutely! In fact, this is the best time to seek therapy to prevent any possible mental health problems. Also, when you are not in a crisis, you can dive deeper into yourself and make better choices not dictated by old patterns. I view psychotherapy as holistic and preventative. Everyone deserves to have an objective space to discuss their daily concerns, explore themselves, and thrive! Therapy is like exercise for your body to keep you healthy.
I have a serious mental health condition, can I stop seeing my psychiatrist if I am getting psychotherapy services from you?
No. A serious mental illness needs to be well managed under the care of a psychiatrist or other prescribing practitioner (e.g., psychiatric nurse practitioner) before we can engage in the emotionally intense work of psychotherapy. “The Education Law and Regents Rules specify that it is unprofessional conduct for a Creative Arts Therapist to provide any mental health service for a serious mental illness on a continuous and sustained basis without a medical evaluation of the illness by, and consultation with, a physician regarding such illness. The law defines serious mental illness as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, and autism.” From: http://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/mhp/mhppg11.htm.
I have a serious mental health condition and do not have a psychiatrist (or other prescribing practitioner), can you help refer me to someone?
Yes, I would be happy to help you find a referral. In fact, for serious mental health conditions I am required “to consult with a physician when treating a patient for serious mental illness on a continuous and sustained basis and obtain permission to consult with the patient's physician.” From: http://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/mhp/mhppg11.htm.
